Why VFS Visa Photos Get Rejected (and How to Take a Perfect One at Home)

You can spend weeks gathering bank statements and employment letters. Then they reject your photo because your head is three millimeters too small. That is how visa applications go sometimes.

Why VFS turns photos away

A pharmacy booth seems like an easy option. But most retail staff are not trained on foreign visa rules. They default to a US passport template, and that is where things go wrong.

The things that get rejected most often:

  • Wrong background color. Some countries will not accept white. They want cream or light grey. Even shadows on the wall behind you can trigger a rejection.
  • Head too big or too small. The biometric software needs your face to fall within a narrow range. Outside it and the system cannot process it.
  • Glasses or expression. Prescription glasses can cause a rejection. So can a slight smile or hair covering your eyebrows. Neutral face, mouth closed, both eyes visible.
  • Print quality. Regular paper or a cheap inkjet will not pass. It has to be a real photo print.
